Prayer requests:

  1. Prayers for Neo as he recovers from COVID
  2. For the men of F3 Sandhills as we have had hard discussions surrounding who we are as a team and how we can leverage our gifts for the betterment of our community.
  3. For Captain D who had the vision of bringing F3 to the Sandhills almost nine years to the day.  He (and the OG) stood up F3 Sandhills and I think all of us who have had our life changed by F3 owe a debt of gratitude to CPT D.  We are all better for it!
  4. Prayers for the Senff and Blakely 2.0’s that just got their licenses….and all the drivers in Moore County as these new learners maneuver in and around this great area.
  5. For Reilly and her new born son.  May God put a love in her heart that she didn’t know possible before his birth.

Flying Tomato led us out in prayer

MOLESKINE: Patience

We live in a world where we can instantaneously access information, order what we want, and have it arrive on our doorstep within days.  In metropolitan areas that time is reduced to hours.  Patience is getting harder to come by due to our “I want what I want, and I want it now!” attitudes.  Oh, you may not say it, but  I’ll bet you do think it.  Instant gratification has become the norm of our fast-paced society and has crept into our culture.  There are plenty of things that request our time, there are also things that require our patience.

Back in 2010 my M and I went to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia for a vacation.  We wanted to get away from it all and that seemed like a neat place…and it was!  On our way up we wanted to see the Flower Pot Rocks. These rock formations are caused by tidal erosion in New Brunswick, Canada’s Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park.

They stand 60 or 70 feet tall.  They are nicknamed the Flower Pot Rocks as the trees that grow at the top resemble plants growing in a clay pot.  We pulled in toward evening and had reserved a Yurt for the night.  I glanced out and saw a huge mud pit, probably ½ mile from the coast line to the ocean.  Hmmm.  That’s interesting.  Just before we hit the sack I looked up when low tide was so we would be at Hopewell Rocks as the tide came in.  Ok.  Low tide is at 0630.  Backwards planning I figured cooking and cleaning up breakfast, brushing teeth, getting ready, drive time, time to park, walk down…alright – up at 0445!  My M groans at me, but is up and ready to go the next morning.

Let me pause there for a minute.  I’m gonna geek out about this tide.  I mean, twice a day, every day, Fundy Bay fills and empties a billion tons of water during each tide cycle—that’s more than the flow of all the world’s freshwater rivers combined!   The largest influence is the gravitational effect of the moon as it pulls the water toward itself, making a bulge on the surface of the ocean at the side of the moon (lunar tide).  The centrifugal force (caused by the spinning of the Earth-Moon system) acts on the water particles at earth’s surface opposite the moon, creates a second bulge. These bulges are what we refer to as high tide.  As the moon revolves around the earth the bulges shift with it causing a shift in the water level.  Ok, done geeking out…but that’s pretty cool stuff to pass along to your 2.0’s and make them think you’re smart.

So, there we are walking on the ocean floor at low tide.  We look up at the Flower Pot rocks and are amazed imagining this wall of water rushing in that will reach that high!   There are signs that warn you you MUST return to the stairs or you’ll be trapped!

OMG, this is gonna be awesome, seeing this huge wave come in.  So we wait.  And wait.  And wait.  All the while, the water is slowly, gently flowing and gurgling across the large open exposed mud and gravel in the intertidal zone.

Nope.  The tide does not come in like a large 52 foot high wave like I thought.

I looked at my M and just laughed my head off.

It’s the tide,                                                                                              NOT a tidal wave.

 0600                      0700                    0900

As we go about our day today, have a bit of patience.  Nature reminded me that water is patient and slow.  It’s also powerful!  Water can slowly smooth the surface of a rock by years of continual gentle persistence.

Rather than rush in saying, “I want it now!” embody the spirit of the water.

Be patient.

Be Determined.

Be Powerful.

Be….Unstoppable.

Aye!
