Chitwood led us out in prayer and reminded us to give grace to others, to give it all up to God and it is by doing that we can rest easy.  Each of us has received grace from above which we do not deserve, let’s find a little grace for others today!

MOLESKINE:  Do your words carry weight?

F3 Crossroads (unknown region) posed the question after a ruck, “Do your words carry weight?”

Your words have power.  Words have impact.

Our words have power to build up or tear down – Ephesians 4:29.

Words create or destroy – Proverbs 18:21.

Even if we can’t see it, the words that we speak have impact within ourselves as well as the lives of others.  I have been guilty of not watching my words. I have inflicted wounds with them and have been cut by words of people close to me.

How about at home?  Do your words carry weight?  Have you played the role of Don Quixote for so long, tilting at every windmill, that your words are lost at those living under the same roof?

Let me paint the (sadly familiar) picture for you.  You and your M (or your 2.0s) are in the house on a normal day.  And you say something out of jest or with no thought behind it. You know, just throwing a comment out there.

…Silence

You turn and see those sad eyes from your M and know you’ve hurt her (again, or your 2.0s).  You didn’t mean to.  It was just…thoughtless.  Ugh.

The f’ing toothpaste is out of the tube and you can’t put it back.

Now let’s flip that scenario. Words can also be used to heal, encourage, and love.  Sometimes we have to leave the space and time for the right words.  The rucking crew has often had times during the 8-10-12 mile rucks to have the time needed to let the right words filter through to then speak words of wisdom and friendship. Putting weight on your back might actually make your words carry some weight.  And if that statement holds true, some of us need to put more heft in our rucks!

…The infamous Whitehall Trail

Every time we speak, we create a road of some sort. The quality of that road, and how far it goes, is directly related to how well we maintain our integrity with our words and language choices.

The truth nugget here is: (wait for it) … when you speak, it should mean something. At home, work, anywhere.

I ask you again.  Do your words carry weight?

Aye!
