MOLESKINE:

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger…

It happens, sadly, we get mad.  The Apostle Paul got it.  He acknowledges that people are flawed and get angry.  When we get angry it can be like the people on the banks of a river shouting at one another and when asked why their shouting they respond with, “because we lost our sh*t.”  Ok, maybe they didn’t say it that way a couple thousand years ago, but I bet they’d say it that way today.

Why do we shout at the other person when they are usually right next to you?  Can’t you just as well tell that person what you have to say in a calm manner?

The ancient wisdom traditions explain, ‘When two people are angry at each other, their distance grows between their hearts. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.’

What happens when two people know each other on a deep level….not the work-a-day life but a real relationship (maybe like when you fall in love with your wife all over again)?  You don’t shout at but talk softly, because your hearts are close.  The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small.  When your relationships become even deeper, what happens?  Maybe you only need to whisper, maybe not even that…maybe you only need to look at each other and that’s all.

When you argue do yell and do not let your hearts grow apart, do not say words that create a chasm.  If you do, there will come a day when the gap is so great that you will not find the path to return.

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.”—Ephesians 4:26-31

TODAY……Let’s be men that build up, not tear down.

Aye!
